~notes on succumbing

  drink from me

  the blue

  a flow of ink

           and water

  understand now

  how snowmelt

  carries the weight

  of dirtied words

  pollutes this stream

          too swift to round

           the bend

  it’s as if soggy banks

  bear an ache

           a cruelty

  captured by fishkill

  the skin of dying things

  unclosed eyes

  staring back at you

           suffocating

  among the daylilies
